Connie's career is marked by her dedication to advocating for individuals within the legal system. Most recently, she served as a Mitigation Specialist and Investigator for the Arkansas Public Defender Commission – Conflicts Office from 2015 until her retirement in 2022. In this role, she was responsible for gathering and analyzing mitigation evidence for clients charged with capital murder. Her work involved interviewing clients' families and associates, coordinating with attorneys and psychologists, and developing comprehensive life histories to support defense strategies. Connie's meticulous attention to detail and compassionate approach significantly contributed to favorable outcomes in numerous high-stakes cases.
In 2019, Connie acted as a Confidential Expert Consultant for the United States Air Force, providing specialized expertise in a case involving a service member charged with murder. Her ability to navigate sensitive legal matters with discretion and professionalism underscores her exceptional skill set.
Prior to her work with the Public Defender Commission, Connie served as a Treatment Coordinator for the Department of Community Correction. She coordinated education and mental health services for inmates, developed treatment and security policies, and supervised a team of protective service and administrative personnel. Her leadership and commitment to rehabilitation programs enhanced the support systems available to incarcerated individuals.
Earlier in her career, Connie dedicated a decade to the Little Rock District Court as a Probation Officer and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She supervised probationers, enforced court-imposed sentences, and maintained order during court proceedings. Her role also involved assisting judges with research, writing, and case management, further deepening her understanding of the judicial process.
